In the early days of solar installations much of the industry would come to your house, install the solar panels on a racking system and run the wires. Because solar panels cannot sit flush onto your roof (they need room for the wires) there was space for animals to get under. As you can imagine, nests would be created and wires might be chewed.
Our team members were frequently being called out to assess disruptions in service in which the solar panel owners would be wondering why the unit was not producing electricity any more. Typically this was after a month or more of no electricity being generated. A lot of the time they would look into the problem and quickly be able to identify that an animal had made a nice home underneath the panels and chewed some wires. The racoons would even put up pictures of their family members and have family dinners every Sunday...they would invite extended family members too.
As you can imagine this is a problem because you can’t save money if you don’t produce electricity and broken wires pose a safety risk.

Here to talk to you about critter guard. I equate critter guard to being like buying a brand new car and not putting brakes in that vehicle to save money. It’s a huge investment to buy a vehicle and if you drive it off the lot without brakes you're going to crash that car and ruin your investment.
Critter guard is the exact same thing.
This goes all the way around your panels and it stops squirrels, racoons and birds from getting underneath. Racoons and squirrels are notorious for chewing wires and we have replaced full systems, panels and micro inverters from animals that have gotten underneath. It’s just simply not worth it when you're talking about a product with a 20 and 25 year warranty to not protect it with a mesh product like this that stops them from getting underneath.
